The Business department offers a variety of one and two-semester certificates in the business field. Certificates offered include: Accounting Technician, Administration Specialist, Banking Fundamentals, Business Fundamentals, and Small Business Entrepreneur.
The Accounting Technician program is designed to train general duty accounting professionals. The program includes training in fundamental business skills such as accounting, using computer software, public speaking, diversity, and professionalism. Students also learn written and verbal communication skills, diversity, and business ethics. Special emphasis is placed on accounting procedures including computerized accounting, payroll, and sales tax. The student who successfully completes the program will have the accounting skills necessary to be valuable accounting technician in a small business or an accounting office in a large business.
The Administration Specialist program is designed to train entry-level office managers and supervisors. The program includes training in fundamental business skills such as accounting, using computer software, public speaking, diversity, and professionalism. Students also learn written and verbal communication skills, human relations, and supervisory skills. The student who successfully completes the program will have the special skills necessary to be an effective manager or supervisor in an office or retail setting.
The Banking Fundamentals program is designed to provide the skills needed to begin a career in the banking industry. The program includes training in fundamental business skills such as accounting, using computer software, public speaking, diversity, and professionalism. Students also learn written and verbal communication skills, diversity, and business ethics. The program also stresses banking and finance skills. The student who successfully completes the program will have the fundamental skills necessary for an entry-level position in the banking industry.
The Business Fundamentals program provides students with the basic skills necessary to be a contributing entry-level employee in a business. The program not only includes valuable skills in accounting and computer software, it also incorporates training in public speaking, diversity, and professionalism. The student who successfully completes the program will have a well-rounded fundamental business education and the skills to perform essential duties in a business environment.
The Small Business Entrepreneur program is designed to give the entrepreneur the skills needed to become a successful small business person. The program includes training in fundamental business skills such as accounting, using computer software, public speaking, diversity, and professionalism. Students also learn written and verbal communication skills, diversity, and business ethics. The program places particular emphasis on developing the skills and knowledge needed to plan, start and manage a successful small business.
